Quakers call on Australia to ban the bomb

79 years after a nuclear weapon devastated Hiroshima  - we are yet to eradicate the most destructive and indiscriminate weapon ever created.

Quakers Australia have just written to the Prime Minister, calling on Australia to sign the nuclear ban treaty and for Australian military policy to explicitly reject nuclear deterrence.

We cannot wait another year to ban the bombs that decimated Hiroshima and Nagasaki!

Quakers Australia write to you on the 79 th anniversary of the dropping of a nuclear weapon on Hiroshima, that killed up to 140,000 people. At our recent national gathering Quakers Australia called on the Australian Government to show its commitment to nuclear disarmament by signing and ratifying the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW); and changing our defence policy to explicitly distance Australia from US extended nuclear deterrence.
