Palestine, Israel and the International Court of Justice

In response to the 19 July International Court of Justice ruling on the inherent illegality of Israeli settlements and their violation of Palestinian rights, Presiding Clerk Bruce Henry has penned a letter addressing the issue. The letter applauds the initial steps taken by the Australian Government and urges further action, emphasising Australia’s obligation to halt any support for these settlements, including trade and tax concessions.

The letter also highlights a resolution passed during the recent Quaker national gathering, acknowledging the fear and historical trauma experienced by both Israelis and Palestinians. It calls for stronger measures to end the ongoing violence, advocating for diplomatic efforts and an end to military trade with Israel, including the Future Fund divesting from Israeli arms companies.
